Van vs Van?
Here I will list doen the differences between Van in the anime and movie and one in the manga.
Here are the differences in Van's character:
- As Fanelia was attacked, Van wasn't asked to use Escaflowne, he was supposed to seal it.
- Van came to earth to find the key to seal Escaflowne with (Hitomi's pendant), not to vanquish a runaway dragon.
- Van has an insignia on the back of his right hand; the same insignia that is found in Hitomi's tarot cards. Folken also has the same symbol on his right hand.
- When Van came to earth, he was injured and after meeting Hitomi, he fainted due to the wounds he received. Hitomi brought him to her home where she dressed his wounds. Hitomi's mother plays a more active role, of being suspicious of Van and his sword.
- During his stay on earth, Van even dressed in Earth clothes. ^.^
- Van doesn't have wings! *faints*
- Here's the big one. Van didn't actually pilot Escaflowne, in any way! The Escaflowne didn't transform into a dragon, or fly through the sky. He only got within a few feet of the Escaflowne. In fact, the moment that Van saw the Escaflowne, he did not wish to use its power. Rather, he wished for a world where there would be no need for Escaflowne. As a result, the Escaflowne vanished!
